Media Center Press Releases RTA Strategic Plan

In 2007, the RTA released the Moving Beyond Congestion Strategic Plan which described the investment in transit that must be made in order to improve mobility and reduce traffic congestion in the region.  An update of this Strategic Plan is now underway that the RTA is spearheading, and the CTA, Metra and Pace are actively engaged in the process.

Components of the Strategic Plan update include: regional performance measures, a market analysis (transit demand), a systems analysis (transit supply), an asset condition assessment and a 10-year financial projection.

Other aspects of the Strategic Plan update will involve developing a synthesis of the findings and related issues and formulating strategies to implement the plan.  The analysis will lead toward the consideration of projects such as station improvements, a universal fare payment system, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), rail expansion projects and transportation hubs.

Stakeholder input is integral to the Strategic Plan process, and public outreach will be conducted to ensure transparency and accountability. Among the key stakeholders are  transit riders, taxpayers, the Illinois General Assembly and local governments.
